QUEZON CITY – The Diocese of Cubao joined Quezon City in honoring the 146th birth anniversary of former President Manuel Luis Quezon, celebrated as the “Father of the National Language.”
Most Rev. Honesto Ongtioco, Bishop of Cubao highlighted the importance of remembering and recognizing the significant contributions of President Quezon in promoting the national language—a language that connects Filipinos not only with each other but also with God.
Bishop Ongtioco emphasized that President Quezon’s legacy extends beyond patriotism. He was a man of faith and a steward of the environment, qualities that make him a timeless role model, especially for today’s youth.
“As we commemorate Quezon City Day, we honor the Father of Quezon City and the Father of the National Language, President Manuel L. Quezon. We are grateful for the gift of language, which enables us to connect with one another and with God. His legacy challenges us to deepen our love for God, for each other, and for the care of creation—our shared home, reflecting the values that President Quezon lived by,” Bishop Ongtioco said in a statement to Radio Veritas.
‘Quezon Day,’ observed every August 19, is recognized as a special working holiday nationwide and a special non-working public holiday in the provinces of Quezon and Aurora, under Republic Act No. 6741, enacted in 1989 to commemorate the birth of the “Father of the National Language.”
President Quezon is regarded as an enduring example of service and love for the nation, inspiring both the present and future generations.
