Behind the Bonifacio Monument and along epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), there stood two chapels. One belonged to the Roman Catholics; the other, to the religious nationalists in Balintawak. The Catholic chapel was part of San Roque in Kalookan and was later transferred to the Parish of Our Lady of Grace when it was established in 1947.

On September 16, 1959, a decree issued by the Most Rev. Rufino J. Santos, D.D., created the new parish was made up of the Our Lady of Grace in Kalookan and San Pedro bautista in San Francisco del Monte, Quezon City. Its area coincided more or less with what was traditionally called Balintawak. It extended from E. Rivera Street northward tot he boundary of Talipapa and Bagbag; from Dario River in the east; and westward to the Biglang-Awa area, Barrio galino and Manotok subdivisions.
