In 1958 the residents of Project 8 celebrated Sunday mass in a bodega. The community, then under the San Pedro Bautista Parish, was given permission to hold these masses. On September 1958, a typhoon destroyed the community's place of worship. Sunday masses nevertheless continued to celebrated in a neighboring garage. Fr. Bertrand F. Demers, OMI, a frequent presider of the community's Sunday masses initiated the building of a small chapel in the plaza. The chapel then was only about six meters long. The first Christmas celebration was held in the chapel still under construction. On March 21, 1966, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish was canonically established, and Fr. Alfonso Caparas was installed as the first parish priest. An engineer by profession, Fr. Caparas immediately improved the facade of the church. Through the years, additional improvements and buildings were constructed.
