CARITAS CUBAO, REACHES OUT TO THE HOMELESS AMID COVID-19

QUEZON CITY, Philippines – The Social Services and Development Ministry (SSDM) of the Diocese of Cubao thru its social arm Caritas Cubao launched its program “Hatid-tulong Diocese of Cubao Oplan COVID-19”, which aims to provide food and hygiene kits to the homeless of Quezon City this March 21, 2020.

In an interview with the Cubao Social Communications Ministry, Father Ronnie Santos, Director of SSDM, said that the church cannot abandon the marginalize sector which is the most vulnerable in contacting the Coronavirus Disease 2019. Despite the risks, he emphasized that the mother church will forever take care of its children, be it physical or spiritual nourishment.

“Kapag hindi na nag-risk, hindi na ito Simbahan. Pero totoo, ginagawa ito ng Inang Simbahan, kinakalinga ang mga anak.” Fr. Santos said.

250 families in Barangay Krus na Ligas and 250 families in Barangay San Antonio received the first and second batch of food packs including 10 sacks of rice and hygiene kits. They also distributed 4,000 pieces of freshly baked Nutribans from San Miguel Corporation, in the homeless of Barangay Damayang Lagi BEC Community, Santo Cristo De Bungad Parish, San Isidro Labrador Parish, Holy Family street dwellers, and senior citizens in Christ the King Parish, Project 7.

Father Santos said another batch of food packs and hygiene kits will be distributed to the Transfiguration of Our Lord Parish and other parishes with poor families.
