IMMACULATE CONCEPTION PARISH (PROJECT 8)

In 1967, the early residents of GSIS Village realized the need for a place where Sunday Masses could be celebrated. A make-shift chapel at the dead end of GSIS Avenue was constructed for the purpose. The project was initiated by a group of enthusiastic residents led by Bro. Liborio Gabutina.

The majority of the residents later requested that the make-shift chapel be moved to Premium Street beside the GSIS Village Elementary School.

In 1969, the Cursillo Movement attracted many cursillistas to attend the ultreya, or weekly prayer meeting, at the small improvised chapel. This signaled the start of a beautiful camaraderie among the residents.

A fund-raising campaign for the construction of a bigger chapel was launched and the contruction of the then Immaculate Conception Chapel began.

In 1988, the pastoral council of the parish, headed by Sis. Raymunda P. Ortega, petitioned Archbishop Jaime Cardinal L. Sin, to convert the chapel community, then under the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, to a parish. The petition also requested the installation of Fr. Carlito D. Reyes as a parish priest. The petition was approved. On August 15, 1988, the parish was established.
