Saint John Paul II Parish Celebrates its Fiesta

Saint John Paul II Parish in Eastwood Quezon City, celebrated the feast day of its patron, on October 22, 2017. The 9AM fiesta Mass was presided by Cubao Bishop, Most Reverend Honesto F.  Ongtioco, D.D., together with its parish priest, Father Arnel Recinto, and some guest priests.

During the homily, Bishop Nes remembered his encounters with Pope John Paul II in the Vatican. Bishop Nes was appointed rector of the Pontificio Collegio Filippino in Rome Italy, and he remembers fondly how the then Pontiff, Pope John Paul II exuded holiness; for he was man of humility, and a man full of God.

Bishop Nes also expounded on the Sunday Gospel and reminded the faithful that we are all just stewards of God’s gifts to us. He also emphasized the need to be consistent in standing up for our principles, the importance of the family, and to “Be Not Afraid”, a frequent message of Saint John Paul.

Born Karol Jozef Wojtyla on May 18, 1920 Wadowice, Poland, he was the 264th pope from 1978 to 2005. He died at the Apostolic Palace on April 2, 2005. He was canonized by Pope Francis on April 27, 2014.

Called by some Catholics as Saint John Paul the Great, he is the patron of the Archdiocese of Krakow, of young Catholics, and of families. He is also co-patron of the World Youth Day, and the 2015 World Meeting of Families.
