Cebu City - The 3rd National Media Convention, opened today, August 14, 2o17, with a Eucharistic celebration presided by Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Dennis Villarojo, at the chapel of the Holy Family Retreat House in Lahug, Cebu City.
The theme for this year's convention is from the Holy Father's 51st World Communications Day Message, "Fear not, for I am with you: Communicating Hope and Trust in Our Times."
"Storya ta!" is the secondary theme of the four-day event.
Bishop Dennis in his homily said that the Blessed Virgin Mary is our model of how to communicate hope to others. He gave emphasis on the Blessed Mother's gentle reproach, and her use of loving words when communicating her concern and love to her Son, especially during the finding of Jesus at the temple with the teachers of the Law.
Bishop Dennis gave another example: during the Wedding at Cana, the Blessed Virgin Mary communicated complete trust in her Son in the midst of a crisis. In her words, "Do whatever He tells you," Mother Mary teaches us to look to Jesus with total abandonment, especially when faced with struggles in our mission as Church communicators.
Bishop Dennis pointed out that "Communication should have a spirituality springing from our communion with the Lord."
The Blessed Virgin Mary is a model in building trust, and communicating hope for all Church Social Communications leaders and volunteers, and whatever we communicate to others should flow from our communion with God.
The third National Media Convention happening from August 14 to 17, 2017, is organized by the Episcopal Commission on Social Communications, and hosted this year by the Cebu Archdiocesan Commission on Social Communications. (Cubao Media)
